The Indian Government recently imposed the nationwide lockdown till 17th May with the outbreak of deadly respiratory disease COVID-19. With the increase in the numbers of case, it was made mandatory for all essential services such as food supply, medical services and others to reach and provide the necessities door-to-door.
However, at primary stages of lockdown it was made mandatory for all to stay at home apart from police and medical services, later on, another service provides such as food supply chains, e-commerce platforms, medical care, health care, chemists, security personnel, media services, electricity and water department, animal fodder. etc were also included in the list with an advisory note to maintain social distancing and contactless deliveries. These services were required to apply for E-pass in order to move without issues within the permitted area.
What is an E-Pass?
E-Pass refers to an online official document that is been issued by the concerning authorities of a district to allow/permit only essential service or emergency movement within the permitted area ensuring safety measures such as social distancing and "Zero Contact Delivery" of good and services. It is been also referred to as movement pass or COVID-19 emergency pass, or online lockdown pass by some states.
It also allows the applicant to move out in extremely necessary situations only if they have no other option left but to move out, he/she can apply for e-Pass online by visiting your respective state government’s website.
Applicants are required to fill up an online form and attach supporting documents, concerning authorities will then get in touch with you regarding your case and authorise your e-Pass.
Procedure to apply for movement pass
- Visit the official website of the respective state or UT
- Select the ‘apply e-pass’ tab
- Fill the form with all required details
- Upload the documents, if required, select the submit button in the application
- You will receive the message from the authority once your e-pass is approved
- Take a print-out of the e-pass and do carry it with you while travelling

How to track the status of your application for e-pass?
- After you have submitted the application you can check for the status of an application by entering a unique ID on the e-pass website of your state.
- Once your application for e-pass is approved you will be sent a message over phone informing the acceptance of the application by the authorities.
- The e-pass once allotted can be printed and is to be carried along with you when you leave the house.
